Hm, I really thought there were photos of me where I was grinning such that you could see my teeth, but I haven't had any luck finding them. If, perchance, you have any such photos or have seen them and could point me at them, that could be a real help. I'm interested in as far back as possible. (...past the age of 10, when I had all my adult teeth.)

This is, of course, because I don't want anyone else's smile, I want mine -- but we'll be trying to effectively reconstruct the way it (and my bite, and therefore various other things about my face/head/jaw/neck) was 10, 15, 20 years ago.

I know I haven't been updating much. I forget what I've said about all this. Tomorrow I have my first bout of 3+ hours of exam -- x-rays, head x-rays, photos, molds, measurements, etc etc and so forth -- in the real beginning of the process that will result in my having every tooth crowned at once. The nervous-making thing is the spreading apart of my jaws, putting more room in my bite, which has effects on most of the rest of the body. Hopefully, ideally, there will be various good effects from it. But it needs to happen. Hopefully we're doing this early enough that no gum surgery will be necessary to provide enough space for the crowns to attach to the teeth. My dentist was right to say to do it now, it seems.

I had tooth nightmares last night. It will be nice not to have to worry about them breaking. The corner of my front tooth where my dentist did such a nice invisible repair is already ragged again. It's sort of terrifying that nothing is as strong as real teeth; I do worry that the crowns won't last. But that's part of the point of doing them all at once; hopefully they won't damage each other too badly if they're all crowned.

Thankfully, the timing is actually ok, financially (knock wood), for the third most expensive purchase of my life. The other two were houses. Thankfully, my family can help. I'm enormously grateful. Also, if my dentist, bless her, hadn't recommended me over to the dental school, it couldn't have happened anyway.
